AndyD's First Post~Oprah!

This is my idol, the one and only Oprah Winfrey! The famous multi-millionaire talk show host who's generosity and words of wisdom have made her be known across the nation. Oprah grew up in a poor rural town of Mississippi, poverty stricken she and her family struggled through life and eventually moved to Milwaukee where she was raised as a teen. Oprah also experienced many hardships through her childhood claiming to be sexually assaulted at age nine and pregnant at the age of fourteen ( her son died in infancy). Oprah eventually became involved in broadcasting in high school which led her to begin her own talk show. Anyway, Oprah was also known as one of the most generous people in the world. What she gave away on her show and donated to others in need was unreal. My 6th grade science teacher that is in love with Oprah was a witness of all this. She and other audience members were brought outside the studio to a parking lot to receive brand new cars, from this you can tell that Oprah is a very generous and giving person. After many years the legendary talk show host decided to stop broadcasting shows, however she wouldn't leave all her fans behind like that. Oprah then started her own television network called OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network). The OWN network features a variety of shows but are nothing compared to a talk show with Oprah. As you can see Oprah is a very kind, caring, and generous person that likes to give to others things she never had while going through life.

Excited~ Meeting new people and learning new things, 1 step closer to being finished with school.

Least Excited~ Homework.

Jessie W-First Post, Justin Bieber

This is Justin Bieber! The famous and inspirational 17 year old, teen sensation throughout the world! Justin Bieber came from a small town in Stratford, Ontario in Canada. He did many talent shows when he was around the age of 14. His mom, Pattie Mallette, made videos and put them up on YouTube just so friends and family would be able to see and hear him sing. Random people just started finding these videos and were subscribing and commenting! Then one guy, named Scooter Braun, found Justin's videos and thought he was really good! So he kept trying to get a hold of Justin's mom and she just didn't want to answer. She kept saying things like leave us alone, and we don't want any of this. One day Scooter and Pattie had a 3 hour- long conversation about Scooter wanting to be Justin's manager and get Justin out there! Then, they flew down to Atlanta, and took a car over to the recording studio. They got out of the car and Justin saw Usher get out of his car. Justin ran up to Usher and asked him if he could sing for him. After Justin sang, Usher wanted to sign him right away. From day 1 Justin had thousands of fans! And me, I was one of those thousands. Justin Bieber is one of my all time favorite singers and celebrities! One of my favorite songs is Down To Earth. The second verse goes, Mommy you were always somewhere, and Daddy I live out of town..(Justin's parents split when he was 10 months old) So tell me how could I ever be, normal some how? (He just wants to have a normal life) You tell me this is for the best, so tell me why am I in tears? So far away and now I just need you here. (He wants his dad to be in his everyday life and it's so hard for him to handle that he can't see him everyday) I absolutely love Justin Bieber because he is so talented, I love his hair and his music, and he is just so inspiring! Don't Forget, Never Say Never.

(His movie, Justin Bieber: Never Say Never is such an amazing and inspiring movie!!!)

What am I most excited about?
~I think what I am most excited about is meeting all the freshman that I didn't know before.

What am I least excited about?
~ The thing I am least excited about is probably the homework, tests, and quizzes. But we'll see, maybe things will change.

gliese 581g

After 11 years of NASA research a red dwarf star, gliese 581g has been looked at a lot closer and it is pretty much another Earth. After looking at pictures of it I thought it was just a picture of Earth but it's not.
This planet is not freezing like all the planets past mars that range from -200 through -400 degrees. And it is not hot like Venus and Mercury that are in the 800's.
It has been said that Mars has dry river beds and other dried up bodies of water which once supported life. The only water on Mars is frozen from the cold which at its lowest is -190 degrees.

On gliese 581g an atmosphere is capable of being held because the gravity is strong enough, but the star that would be this planets "Sun" does not get circled like Earth does to the Sun. Because of that, the lighted side of this planet will always be the lighted side and the dark side will stay dark. If we were to live on this planet we would have to be on the border so we don't freeze or burn but stay at a decent temperature.

Here's a more detailed article from NASA about this http://www.nasa.gov/topics/universe/features/gliese_581_feature.html
This could be interesting if we lived there but it is 20 light years away. so if we traveled at the speed of light for 20 years then there we go.

I'm excited about...
Passing this class and getting it over with.

I'm not excited about...
Having to do work.

Water Bears!

Hey guys... its Mrs. Stein here... this summer I spent a few days at a teacher workshop in New York where I met some interesting people and learned a lot of new stuff!!!  One of the teachers at the workshop told about these organisms called Water Bears.  Has anyone ever heard of them???  So, apparently they are quite abundant in moss, so we should be able to find them anywhere... they are microscopic and they can survive being frozen for years!  They go into a dormant state to survive extreme temperatures.  This is something that is seen in simpler organisms, but in an actual animal, it is rare... and pretty cool!  And what else is cool about these critters... they don't really fit in with other groupings of invertbrates.

They are not insects... not worms... they just don't fit.  Cool eh?  I am hoping to find some moss and see if in fact we really do have these little guys running around in Glenview too!  Want more info on Water Bears?

Check out this interesting article on them.

Or watch this video.

Aren't they soooo cute???  And weird too!!!
What's interesting to you??? Please share!  Feel free to comment on my post too!

What am I MOST excited about?
I really love watching the transformations in freshman... I look forward to seeing the learning and growth that will happen in each of you this year... (OK...i know, a little cheesy)

What am I LEAST excited about?
Waking up early, traffic, and grading papers!
