Capillary action is the tendency of water to rise in a thin tube. Water is attracted to walls of the tube, and water molecules are attracted to one another. Capillary action makes water move much higher in small and narrow tubes, then in wide tubes. ( Also on page 686 in our textbooks, there are diagrams shown to help explain capillary action)
