Muddiest Point 1/9

My muddiest point is number 5 on the objectives sheet. It says know the terms in the context of hormones and the menstrual cycle. The terms are negative feedback and positive feedback. Is that the chart where if the estrogen and progesterone are high, they tell the hypothalamus to turn everything off? If not, what are they?

  2. Alright so positive feedback:
It's when estrogen levels are low which sends a message to the hypothalamus that tells the pituitary gland to secrete more FSH and LH to bring the level of estrogen up.

    Negative feedback:
It's when estrogen levels are high which sends a message to the hypothalamus that stops it from telling the pituitary gland to secrete FSH and LH.

Hope this helps!! I asked Mrs. Stein and from what I remember positive feedback should be correct, but negative feedback I am a little hesitant. If it helps negative feedback is the last signal that inhibits the first. (Inhibit means to restrain or to not allow to do something. So that's why I think when estrogen levels are too high it stops the hypothalamus from letting the pituitary secrete FSH and LH.)
