Paul s muddiest point

My muddiest point of unit 5B is the difference between trisomys and monosomys and how they create a genetic disorder/syndrome.

Thanks,

  1. Trisomy is when you receive 3 copies of one chromsome whereas the normal amount is 2. So this means you receive an extra copy of one chromosome. An example of a trisomy is down syndrome where you inherit 3 copies of chromosome 21.
Monosomy is when you receive only 1 copy of a chromosome. This means you receive only 1 of the 2 copies for that chromosome. You should normally have 2 copies because you get one copy from your mom and the other from your dad.
