Muddiest Point 2/7

My muddiest point is all about Darwin. What was his theory? What is the concept of "survival of the fittest" and "descent with modification?" I am kind of confused with those.

Thanks,
Jessie

  1. I think that descent with modification means common ancestor. So when I think about the defintion of it, I tell myself that we share a common ancestor, but we are different because we have evolved. I think of that because of the word modification and I think common ancestor because of descent. meaning Now survival of the fittest is like the idea of natural selection. So an organism that is most suited in their environment will survive.
(I'm sorry if these definitions aren't exactly accurate.)

Darwin had more than one theory!
    His theories were:
    - variation(different species had different adaptations)
    - tendency toward overpopulation
    - struggle for existence
    - natural selection/survival of the fittest

Also LIKE LAMARK believed in descent with modification.
