Muddiest Point

what are the differences between the classes of fish, and what are example of each?

  1. Jawless fish have no jaws or teeth. Examples are lampreys and hagfish

Fish with jaws have jaws with teeth and muscle. Examples are sharks, rays, and skates.

Bony fish have skeletons made of calcified tissue called true bone. Examples are eels, goldfish, and catfish

  2. Agnatha: A superclass of jawless fish in the phylum Chordata
Chondrichthyes: They are "cartilaginous" because they lack true bone and their skeletons are built entirely of cartilage (For ex. Sharks).
Osteichthyes: Bony fishes which are made of true bone. This clade includes the ancestors and living members of all "higher" vertebrate groups- including tetrapods.
