BreckM's Muddiest point

I am having trouble remembering the difference between diffusion and osmosis. If anyone has anything to help me understand it better that'd be great!

Thanks.

  1. in diffusion molecules travel from high concentration to low concentration. in osmosis, molecules also travel from high -> low but osmosis focuses on the movement of water. both are passive transport. also osmosis is a type of diffusion

  2. DIFFUSION is just when ANY particle moves from high concentration to low... it can be a molecule in a liquid. It can be a molecule in the form of a gas. ANYTHING particle can diffuse.

OSMOSIS is a specific type of diffusion where WATER diffuses from high concentration to low thru a membrane.
